Stop Error Messages from Displaying on startup

If you constantly see an error message that you can't get rid offor example, from a
piece of software that didn't uninstall properly and continues to give errors on
startupyou can disable it from displaying on startup. Run the Registry Editor and go to
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows. (This
key holds a variety of Windows system settings, such as the location of your system
directory.) Create a new DWORD called NoPopupsOnBoot and give it a value of 1.
Exit the Registry and reboot for the setting to take effect. To disable it, either delete
the DWORD value or give it a value of 0.

MISSING "folder option"

if u hav folder option missing in ur PC...
just try this...

Scan your System With NORTON ANTIVIRUS 2006.u'll find a virus (a forgot its name).repair it and then Open Run and then type "gpedit.msc".
Now goto User Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Component > Windows Explorer.

To change the name of the Recycle Bin desktop icon, click Start then goto Run, write Regedit and press Enter. It opens Registry Editor. Now in Registry Editor go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-1
01B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
and change the name "Recycle Bin" to whatever you want (don't type any quotes).

INCREASE INTERNET "SPEED"

Open regedit and perform following operatios

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentContro
lSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"SackOpts"=dword:00000001
"TcpWindowSize"=dword:0005ae4c
"Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000003
"DefaultTTL"=dword:00000040
"EnablePMTUBHDetect"=dword:00000000
"EnablePMTUDiscovery"=dword:00000001
"GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize"=dword:0005ae4c

Renaming "START BUTTON"

To rename the start button, you will need a hex editor.
My preference is UltraEdit

Copy the \windows\explore.exe file to a new name (e.g. explorer_1.exe)
With the hex editor, open that file and go to offset 412b6
You will see the word start with blanks between each letter
Edit it be any 5 characters or less
Save the file
Boot to DOS
Copy the existing c:\windows\explorer.exe to explorer.org
Copy explorer_1.exe to explorer.exe
You will also need to replace the explorer.exe in the c:\windows\system32\dllcache file as well with the new one.
Note: If the partition is NTFS and you can't access the files from DOS:

Start Regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon.
Change the value of Shell from Explorer.exe to explorer_1.ex

REDUCE the wait time during "SHUTTING DOWN"

When you start to shut down Windows XP, it has to quit, or "kill," any live
applications or processes that are currently running. So close all applications first.
However, some applications and processes are always running in the background.
You can reduce the amount of time that Windows XP waits for those applications and
processes to close before Windows XP kills them

1. Open registry editor
2. Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop. Set the
WaitToKillAppTimeout and set the value to 1000. Select the HungAppTimeout
\newline value and set it to 1000 as well.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control.
Select the WaitToKillServiceTimeout value and set it to 10000.
4. Close the Registry Editor.

Making system fast using "BIOS"

You can speed up your startup procedures by changing the BIOS with the built-in
setup utility. How you run this utility varies from PC to PC, but you typically get to it
by pressing the Delete, F1, or F10 keys during startup. You'll come to a menu with a
variety of choices. Here are the choices to make for faster system startups:
Quick Power On Self Test (POST)
When you choose this option, your system runs an abbreviated POST rather than the
normal, lengthy one.
Boot Up Floppy Seek
Disable this option. When it's enabled, your system spends a few extra seconds
looking for your floppy drivea relatively pointless procedure, especially considering
how infrequently you use your floppy drive.
Boot Delay
Some systems let you delay booting after you turn on your PC so that your hard drive
gets a chance to start spinning before bootup. Most likely, you don't need to have this
boot delay, so turn it off. If you run into problems, however, you can turn it back on

INCREASE bandwidth by "20%"

Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes like
Windows Updates and interrogating your PC etc. Click Start then Run and type
"gpedit.msc" without quotes. This opens the group policy editor. Then go to: Local
Computer Policy Computer Configuration Administrative Templates Network
QOS Packet Scheduler and then to LimitReservableBandwidth. Double click on
Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the
'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of
the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default." So
the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the
system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.It works on Win 2000 as well.

Make ADOBE READER as fast as NOTEPAD

Go to installation folder which is generally c:\program files\adobe\reader\

there u'll find a folder named "plug_ins"

open that folder and cut all the items present over there and paste it to
c:\program files\adobe\reader\ i.e outside the plug_ins folder.......

and u r done.observe the change by opening any .pdf file.....

hide files in a JPEG

Hide Your Files In A JPEG

Well, did you know you could hide your files in a JPEG file? For this, you will only need to download WinRAR. You just need to have a little knowledge about Command Prompt and have WinRAR installed.

Ok, lets begin…

1. Gather all the files that you wish to hide in a folder anywhere in your PC (make it in C:\hidden - RECOMMENDED).
2. Now, add those files in a RAR archive (e.g. secret.rar). This file should also be in the same directory (C:\hidden).
3. Now, look for a simple JPEG picture file (e.g. logo.jpg). Copy/Paste that file also in C:\hidden.
4. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your working directory C:\hidden.
5. Now type: “COPY /b logo.jpg + secret.rar output.jpg” (without quotes) - Now, logo.jpg is the picture you want to show, secret.rar is the file to be hidden, and output.jpg is the file which contains both. :D
6. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\hidden. Open it (double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden archive .

Done! [:D ]

Computer shuts of randomly

Q: I have a computer running Windows XP and sometimes it just shuts itself off. When I restart it the system gives me the system was shut down improperly message. Any idea on how I can stop the computer from just shutting off on it’s own?

A: Before delving into the possible hardware issues that can cause your PC to shut itself off, do as much PC maintenance as you can. Run Windows Update, defrag your PC, run Disk Cleanup, and run anti-virus and anti-spyware applications. Clean as much unnecessary information from your PC as possible and make sure that Windows is running without any problems by uninstalling rarely used and questionable software.

One of the most common causes of a computer shutting off is overheating. You should check your PC to make sure that the fans are not obstructed and that they are evacuating enough hot air from your PC case. You should check the fans on the case, the fan on your PCs power supply, and the fan on the CPU. If they are all spinning without obstruction and are clean (you may need to clean them), leave the cover of your case off for a while with the PC running to see if it continues to shut off at random. If it doesn’t shut off with the case open, you may consider adding additional fans to your case if it can accommodate them to move more air through your case when the cover is on.

If your PC continues to shut off at random, there could be problems with your motherboard or power supply. Contact the PCs manufacturer for additional help diagnosing the PC. They may have additional troubleshooting steps to walk you through that are specific to that PC, or they could have information on known problems with your PC model. If your PC needs to be diagnosed further by a professional, the Manufacturer’s technical support department may be able to refer you to a local repair technician to assist you further

INCREASE the SPEED of a DSL connection

Q: My question is, my computer was slow for quite some time in opening web pages or sites — it took a lot of time. I took DSL and I am still facing the same problem. Though the speed has become slightly better, it is still not in any way good enough as compared to other DSL computers that my friends have. I want to know if in any way, without spending money, I can increase the speed of my computer’s internet connection? I hope this is clear enough.

A: Thank you for your question. First, let’s consider some of the more basic possibilities. As you may already know, there are different speeds of DSL internet service. There are two important numbers to keep in mind here. The first is your incoming/download speed — how long it takes your computer to get data from the internet. The second is your outgoing/upload speed — how long it takes your computer to send data back to the internet. The easiest way to determine the speed at which your DSL service is supposed to run is to call your internet service provider. But sometimes, factors prevent your service from running at full speed. Try visiting the Tools section of dslreports.com to determine the speed and quality of your DSL modem’s internet connection. You may also wish to consult the instructions that came with your DSL modem for its IP address. A DSL modem’s IP address should look something like 192.168.x.x — replace the Xs with the correct numbers for your hardware. Once you find the IP address, type it into the address bar in your internet browser and press enter on your keyboard. Alternatively — depending on your configuration — you may be able to type the word gateway into the address bar instead.

Slower DSL services offer speeds like 256 kbps incoming by 256 kbps outgoing. If your service is that slow, the best solution is to upgrade to a faster service. For example, my DSL service is medium quality, functioning at a speed of 1536 kbps incoming by 480 kbps outgoing. It is worth noting that I actually pay for a few hundred more kbps of outgoing signal than I am actually using. That is either because my telephone line is of poor quality — probably the case considering the outward appearance of the wires — or I am to far away from certain equipment in my city.

Unlike cable internet, DSL requires that your DSL modem be a certain distance from a digital subscriber line access multiplexer, which is also referred to as a “home office”. If your distance from the multiplexer is greater than 1.25 miles, which could really slow your internet down. I know this from personal experience. My family and I subscribed to DSL service in the early days of broadband internet. We signed up for the service and installed all of the correct equipment and software. But it turned out that we were too far away from the multiplexer, so we were not able to establish an internet connection. We had to switch to cable internet. Consult with your internet service provider to discover your distance from the multiplexer.

Next, please think about how you are connecting your DSL modem to your computer. I recommend not connecting the modem to your computer using USB. All but the oldest of old computers will work faster on the internet if connected to the DSL modem with an ethernet cable, instead of USB. Are you connecting to your DSL modem via wireless? If so, make sure that your computer and the DSL modem are both either 802.11g or 802.11n. Additionally, please make sure that there are “filters” connected to all of your telephones. These filters should have been included with your DSL modem. Filters must be installed on all of your telephones for your DSL to work correctly.

If none of the above are helpful, consider doing a hard reset of your DSL modem. To accomplish a hard reset, find the little hidden button on your DSL modem. Get a paperclip and bend it so that you can press the hidden button with it. The required amount of time may be different on your DSL modem, but mine requires that I press the button for about 10-15 seconds before it initiates the hard reset. You may also be able to do the hard reset using your DSL modem’s IP address. Be sure to have all of your connection information available — username, password, etc. Otherwise, you will not be able to re-establish a connection to the internet. If your connection information was not included with your DSL modem, contact your internet service provider for the necessary details.

Also think about, have you done any maintenance on your computer in awhile? Believe it or not, sometimes it is a computer rather than a DSL modem that is the source of internet speed issues. Three software tools in Microsoft Windows that you should use at least once per month are: Disk cleanup, Defragmentation, and Error-checking. Disk Cleanup is located in My Computer => right-click on your hard drive => Properties. Before pressing the Disk cleanup button, you may wish to deactivate the Compress drive to save disk space option. In Disk cleanup, choose all of the options in the first tab except the one having to do with compression. When you are finished with that, go My Computer => right-click on your hard drive => Properties => Tools, and there you will find both Defragmentation and Error-checking. Be sure to choose both options in Error-checking. If you have more than one hard drive, run all three of these tools on all of the hard drives in your computer.

Good luck! I would love to receive a comment from you, below this answer, letting me know if any of this was helpfu

Configuring A Linksys Router For Secure WiFi

Q: I have Windows XP Home Edition on my desktop and my network is setup using a Linksys router with WiFi, but when I set it up I did not configure it to be secured. How can I correct this?

A: Having a secure WiFi network is a must! But without the exact model number of your Linksys hardware, it is impossible for me to give you a specific answer. See below for some general tips:

1. Visit Linksys.com. You should notice some tabs at the top of the webpage. Go Support -> Technical Support. You can the try: Ask Linksys (get an automated answer to your question based on the model number of your Linksys hardware), Live Chat (chat online with a Linksys representative), or download one of the EasyLink Home Networking Tools (programs that can help you to configure your Linksys hardware).
2. Is there a Linksys icon in the system tray (lower right where the clock is)? If so, right-click on it and see what options the Linksys software gives you. You also might want to go Start Menu -> All Programs and look for an icon having to do with your Linksys hardware.
3. Have you tried using any of the disks that came with your Linksys hardware?
4. Some Linksys hardware will allow you to configure the connection from within Internet Explorer (or other internet browser). Consult the documentation that came with your Linksys hardware for more information.

There are two popular types of wireless security, WEP and WPA.

1. The older and less secure of the two methods is WEP. Despite what the names suggest, WEP Shared is less secure than WEP Open. Variations of WEP include: WEP2, WEPplus, and Dynamic WEP.
2. The newer and more secure method of securing a WiFi network is WPA. Most hardware now supports WPA and/or WPA2, but some older hardware/software does not. I believe that WPA2 is currently the most secure option.

Good luck!

Making "WIFI" signals stronger

Q: The community where I live provides WiFi. In my home, the signal is weak and fluctuates between 2 & 3 (out of 5) signal bars. Is there a way to bridge/boost/amplify the signal so that my laptop receives a stronger more consistent signal? I have an Intel PRO/wireless 3945ABG network card.

A: I am happy to answer your question. Just be aware that the “signal bars” for WiFi connections are not necessarily the best indicators of internet connection quality, in my experience. For example, I once configured a computer for WiFi and the signal strength measured about 40%. But the internet was fast and stable on that computer. I have found that the best indicators of internet speed and stability are webpages loading and files downloading. If webpages load quickly and files download fast on your computer, it may be best not to mess with a good thing.

If you choose to proceed, you will need a wireless repeater to strengthen your WiFi connection. In order from easiest to most difficult to configure for your needs, devices that are capable of “repeating” a WiFi signal include:

1. wireless range expanders (page 7 of an About.com article called Wireless Product Equipment…)
2. wireless bridges
3. wireless access points (page 2 of Wireless Product Equipment…)
4. wireless routers (page 1 of Wireless Product Equipment…)

Keep in mind that the above list is also in order from least versatile to most versatile. For someone who has never configured a wireless network before, a wireless expander may be the best option. There is an article from gizmodo.com called 5 Ways To Peak Your WiFi Feng Shui… that does a good job of explaining your various hardware options. The article is over a year old — ancient in tech-time — but the advice is still valid and well presented. I recommend using the advice in reverse. That is, try the empty Pringles can trick and work your way up to the 27-inch wide parabolic antenna! The actual procedure that you will use to configure your wireless repeater will depend on the hardware you choose and the type of WiFi connection that your community provides. Consult with the appropriate person/people in your community to get connection details and product recommendations.

I hope this information helps!

Recovering Scratched CD's

Recovering Scratched CD's
Here's an easy home remedy, which might give you the desired results. Rub a small amount of toothpaste on the scratch and polish the CD with a soft cloth and any petroleum-based polishing solution (like clear shoe polish). Squirt a drop of Brasso and wipe it with a clean cloth.
Technology to the rescue:
There are many softwares available on the net, which enable the recovery of the CD data. BadCopy Pro is one such software, which can be used to recover destroyed data and files from a range of media.
Just a few clicks is all it requires to recover the disc from almost all kind of damage situation; be it corrupted, lost data, unreadable or defective.
DiskDoctors is another popular company, which offers both software and solutions to recover data from a scratched CDs and DVDs

General Tips:
* Always wipe the CD from the center outward with straight spoke-like strokes. Wiping CDs in circles will create more scratches.
* Do not scratch the graphics layer as you cannot repair the disc.
HINT: Hold the disc up to a light with the graphics layer facing the light source. If you can see light thru the scratches at any point then the disc may be irreparable and or exhibit loading or playing errors.
* Clean your Disc players lens regularly with a suitable product to ensure optimal viewing pleasure.
* Make sure to use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean both sides of the disc. Wipe in a straight line from the centre of the disc to the outer edge.
* If wiping with a cloth does not remove a fingerprint or smudge, use a specialized DVD disc polishing spray to clean the disc.

"INCREASE" harddisk speed

To speed up your hard disk speed we need to configure a special buffer in the computer's memory in order to enable it to better deal with interrupts made from the disk.

This tip is only recommended if you have 256MB RAM or higher.

Follow these steps:

* Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the Run command.
* Expand the system.ini file window.
* Scroll down almost to the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
* Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type

Irq14=4096

Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!

* Click on the File menu, then choose Save.
* Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.
* Done. Speed improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.

The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks.

Earning backlinks, improve your page rank

First of all what’s a backlink ?

A backlink is an incoming link to a website, is any link received by a web page, directory, website, blogs etc etc… from another website. The Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
What’s Page Rank ?
Simply a PageRank (PR) means the popularity of a web page used by Google Search Engine for classifying its search results. It has an important while selling links on your website, people always ask for your PR.. The problem is how to get a good one..
The best way is to gain backlinks.. But how ?
We can see lots of people sponsoring forums/blogs/websites themes and putting a link of their website in the theme (in the footer usually) the problem with that is almost all webmasters that use those themes remove all the links from the theme, even the copyrights of the designer, so it still a weak technique to earn backlinks while you spend lots of money to sponsor them.
I’ve got here 5 great techniques to gain backlinks.
1. Submitting your blog in web directories and social networks: When you submit your link in social networks they help you to get indexed in google quickly and improve your PR since every submission is a backlink. About the directories, you need to look for good ones, for directory sites that are indexed deep (with too many backlinks translated to a good PR) so it helps your PR to grow. I’d recommend submitterbot.com to do such a technique.
2. Commenting on Dofollow blogs & forums: Dofollow blogs & forums are sites that give you a backlink just for commenting on their articles and posts. (Iearn-Money is a dofollow blog by the way).
3. Buying forums users signature: Since you sponsor themes with high amounts of money, and buying links with high prices, why don’t you just buy users signatures, for example $5 a month and a minimum of 1000 posts, you earn 1k backlinks which is excelent..
4. Exchanging links with other bloggers: You can exchange links with other webmasters, they put your link on their blog and you do the same.. Better exchange links with blogs/websites that have a good PR so it help you to improve yours.
5. Buying text links or banners: Advertising on other blogs/websites is a good way to improve your PR though.. Just find a cheap advertising packages and feel free to advertise without any worries.
I still have a good technique to build strong Inbound links, but I’ll post it in a separated article, because it needs more explanation.
Note: There are nofollow and dofollow backlinks, the ones which help you to improve your PR are the dofollow ones.
To check your Backlinks, I recommend this tool: backlinkwatch.com
And good luck to everyone. Feel free to comment if you have more techniques to gain more backlinks.

1.First reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up.
2.Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type “control userpasswords2″ without the quotes - I have just used quotes to differentiate what you have to type.

4.Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.
5.You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.

Increase options in add or remove programs

Not a fan of MSN Messenger? don't want Windows Media Player on your system? Fair enough, but if you go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, by default none of Windows XP's 'built in' programs are visible. it's fairly easy to change, though... just open the file X:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf (where X: is the drive letter where Windows XP is installed) in Notepad. You should see a section of the file something like this:

[Components]
NtComponents=ntoc.dll,NtOcSetupProc,,4
WBEM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wbemoc.inf,hide,7
Display=desk.cpl,DisplayOcSetupProc,,7
Fax=fxsocm.dll,FaxOcmSetupProc,fxsocm.inf,,7
NetOC=netoc.dll,NetOcSetupProc,netoc.inf,,7
iis=iis.dll,OcEntry,iis.inf,,7
com=comsetup.dll,OcEntry,comnt5.inf,hide,7
dtc=msdtcstp.dll,OcEntry,dtcnt5.inf,hide,7
IndexSrv_System = setupqry.dll,IndexSrv,setupqry.inf,,7
TerminalServer=TsOc.dll, HydraOc, TsOc.inf,hide,2
msmq=msmqocm.dll,MsmqOcm,msmqocm.inf,,6
ims=imsinsnt.dll,OcEntry,ims.inf,,7
fp_extensions=fp40ext.dll,FrontPage4Extensions,fp40ext.inf,,7
AutoUpdate=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,au.inf,hide,7
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
RootAutoUpdate=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,rootau.inf,,7
IEAccess=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,ieaccess.inf,,7
This is a list of all components installed at the moment. I've taken the example of MSN Messenger - the program entry called 'msmsgs', third-last line. You can see the word 'hide' highlighted - this is the string which tells Windows not to display the component in the Add/Remove Programs list. Fix this up by simply deleting the word 'hide' like so:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

To this:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

Now, after restarting, you should be able to see MSN Messenger in the Add/Remove Programs list. If you want to be able to quickly view and remove all components, simply open the sysoc.inf file and do a global find and replace for the word ",hide" and replace it with a single comma ",".

After playing with your new Apple iPhone awhile, you are certain to discover tips and tricks that are very useful. For those who are not fortunate enough to own your own iPhone, after reading about some of these iPhone tips and tricks, you will probably run out and purchase one today. Here are some of the iPhones tips and tricks.
1. This tip will save you a little bit of your valuable time. When you are connected, tapping once at the very top section of the iPhone’s touch screen will bring you back to the window. It isn’t necessary for you to scroll to get back there.
2. By putting the RSS address into the iPhones reader you won’t have to post the compete address of the sites you’ve bookmarked as your favorites. Doing it this way saves your bookmarks. In that way it can lead you to the address. As an added benefit, it also saves you from having to download the entire webpage.
3. By putting your iPhone font setting to the smallest size possible, it will allow you to be able to read more of what is written in the net window. The advantage is by clicking on the link, you can expand that and the link will make it easier for you to click as well.
4. If you are anything like me, then there are certain words you often misspell? The iPhone has a great feature that will help you remedy this. If you’ve misspelled the word, you can let your iPhone flag it. By canceling this three times, the word will be automatically indexed in the iPhone’s dictionary. The next time you misspell that word, walla! Your iPhone will correct the misspelled word automatically.
5. If you are writing a letter or composing an email and the magnifying glass tool isn’t very helpful because it is too small to be of any use, try tapping it once and then hold. When you do this, the magnifying glass icon will show you how far you can zoom in order for you to get a better view of the letter or email you are writing. As an added benefit, you will find it also makes editing quite easy.
6. If you want to restart your iPhone, press the right button for about 6 seconds. If you want to turn it back on, push the button located at the very top.
7. Do you drag the icons around on your home screen in order to organize them? An easier way to tidy your iPhone up is, go to iPod, click on More, then click on Edit

How to clean motherbord to save...........

Motherboard is the main part of your computer that contains all hardware components. Your computer motherboard could fry, if you do not keep it clean on periodically basis. Dust is the main cause to heat up your system and heat link to hardware failure. You can save your computer maintenance cost if you clean your computer on the regular basis. This will improve the cooling and performance of the motherboard components.

*

To clean your motherboard first unplugs your system power from the electrical outlet.
*

Using the screwdriver remove the side covers of your computer case and put them to one side.
*

Check all data and power cables connections. Inspect all motherboard PCI and AGP slots.
*

Remove all add-on card of your motherboard for example RAM, modem, VGA, sound card and LAN card.
*

Now blow the air around all the motherboard sides and keeping away your blower nozzle 4 to 5 inches away from main board components. You can use vacuum cleaner also for this purpose but compressed air is the better solution to clean a system.
*

At the end assemble back all cards, cables and side covers of your system.
*

I recommend you doing this after every three months if you want to save your system life

Inrease your ram speed so system speed...........

1). Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.

2). Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.

3). Now switch to Word and simply minimize it. (Don't use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar).

4). Now go back to the Windows Task Manager and see where WINWORD.EXE is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find Word. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.

5). Minimize each application that you are currently not working on by clicking on the Minimize button & you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. Depending upon the number and type of applications you use together, the difference can be as much as 50 percent of extra RAM.

In any multitasking system, minimizing an application means that it won't be utilized by the user right now. Therefore, the OS automatically makes the application use virtual memory & keeps bare minimum amounts of the code in physical RAM.

HOW TO UNINSTALL GROVE MONITOR.EXE

GrooveMonitor is a service utility that tracks groove behavour and creates reports for error reporting to MS (what else does it report?). It loads on startup. It gets installed when you install Office 2007. However it doesn't get uninstalled when you uninstall Office 2007. GrooveMonitor starts upon Windows startup (via registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).
To remove GrooveMonitor from your machine you have to go to Control Panel and then select Add/Remove programs. GrooveMonitor is one of the displayed applications. Uninstall it from there. That should do it for any normal windows program. Not surprisingly Microsoft himself often violates this basic principle (which surprisingly would give you more control over their crappy [pardon my French] software), and GrooveMonitor will still load on startup.
You can however use msconfig to prevent it from coming up on Windows startup.
1. Go to Start menu and click Run
2. Type msconfig and press Enter.
3. Go to Startup tab and then uncheck any reference to "groovemonitor"
4. Reboot
Note: Some malware may also camouflage themselves as GrooveMonitor.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder.
GrooveMonitor is currently owned by Microsoft Corporation.
